'Pak Army must declare war on women wearing jeans, they cause earthquakes'

Islamabad: In another bizarre statement coming from a Pakistani cleric, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islami Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has put the blame on women for an array of disasters, including earthquakes, inflation and also worsening security scenario in Pakistan. Not only this, the cleric went to the extent of appealing to the Pakistani govern and the military to declare war on those women who wear jeans by launching a military operation against them.According to a media report, Rehman blurted out these baseless remarks while speaking to a press conference in Islamabad.Rehman also justified the attacks carried out by the Taliban as Allah's wrath over the immodesty of women , saying that once the women were covered like 'sack offlour', everything else will fall in place and disasters won't take place.Besides earthquakes, the JUI-F chief also blamed the women donning jeans for other problems in the country like economic woes, energy crisis, Balochistanissue, etc, cited the media report.Calling the women in jeans as a walking tool of mass destruction, Maulana said that if these women are wrapped in sacks and kept inside homes and if the Shariah law was in place, then the Taliban brothers would not be attacking Pakistan and “economy would automatically improve through foreign investment leading to improvement in the energy situation”.
